In the opening episode of Survivor China, Jeff Probst shows the 16 contestants beginning in ultra-modern Shanghai, but they quickly travel back in time to a centuries-old Buddhist monastery. Their 39 days will be spent in the shadow of the monastery, on the Lake of a Thousand Islands. This definitely looks like the most exotic location of any Survivor season. I’m loving it already!
As our survivors hump their huge packs, trunks, and suitcases up the hundreds of steps to the monastery, I was wondering what kind of Survivor is this? And, do these people have a clue, packing all that stuff? Has anyone watched the show? Every season has a couple of “throw away” characters. We’ll soon see who they are. However, as you’ll see below, our throw aways won’t be leaving any time soon!
Every Survivor named Courtney has been highly annoying. This season is no exception! She had no patience for the Buddhist welcoming ceremony. Mind you, no television production like this has ever happened in China. Courtney was invited to be part of this Event, but Courtney wanted no part of it. She’s not too pleased with being out in the woods amongst a bunch of happy-happy people, either. It’s not at all like New York. I think we’ll see a lot of Courtney for many weeks to come. Ick.
After the Buddhist welcoming ceremony, the two tribes departed for their respective camps. The red tribe has it together, quickly building a shelter above the ground and generally getting along well with each other. Courtney tells the camera she’s not happy with all these people being encouraging and telling each other what a good job they’re doing.
The yellow tribe, in contrast, (more…)

“Damn,” Chicken!! How could you? Why in the world did you go to tribal council and say you didn’t fit in with the bunch of losers you were stuck with? Never, ever, say anthing negative in the very beginning of the game, no matter what you are truly feeling inside yourself. But, with all that being said, I will have to say I respect your honesty. You were truly yourself, and you didn’t act any different than the person you are, which is a chicken farmer from Virginia. I am a Virginian myself and I was truly pulling for you. (I recently had the opportunity to meet Big Tom, the goat farmer, from Virginia. He mentioned you being on Survivor China and he was pulling for you too! So, there were two Virginians who were on your court, the famous Big Tom, ex-survivor contestant twice around, and Gloria Query, 15 time biggest loser who never got on Survivor show! But, we are two bloody proud Virginians and we were glad to know that the Survivor show had the good sense to bring another Virginian to the contestant pool on Survivor China. At least your dream came true and you were blessed to be on the show, but what a way to have to leave it so soon, being the first voted off. “Damn,” it’s a shame we all didn’t get to see your country charm and wits a little bit longer.
Chicken, you sure did have the gumption to throw it out there when you tried to put Ashley on the chopping block at tribal council. (Article continued tomorrow!)
